Selecting business software comes down to compatibility. Most business owners recognize the need for basic software: data base, accounting, word processing. If your daily business transactions are more complex such as in the case of engineering where transactions have more than one phase, you may need to shop around for specifically oriented accounting software.

If you plan to do your advertising and company sales literature in-house, business software that allows you to create and publish full-featured brochures and flyers is a necessity. This type of software usually also includes the ability to create web pages for the internet. This software is graphically oriented and is fairly user-friendly.

Some business require very business specific software. Example: Engineering businesses rely heavily on graphic design software such as AutoCad to create structural and mechanical design drawings. Architectural software is also business specific. There is even a line of software available for libraries and museums.
