Good choice for targeted task of converting tapes January 8, 2009 Zimal M 26 out of 35 found this review helpful
I had such a good experience using the large roxio 9 suite so I bought this version for my parents. The video adaptor is different than deluxe 9 though. Ver. 9 had a pinnacle converter and the new box has a roxio one. The roxio one is much smaller but I didn't see any difference in performance. Frankly my parents' pc has the power to convert the tapes but I was hesitant about getting the big suite and filling their pc with stuff they would never use. I was able to teach them to use the program but then there aren't many things to learn. Once they understood the process I could let them go at it themselves. They have an old VHS camcorder and they still record programs with a VHS player. This is a good pack to ease them into the digital world.
Captures video easily January 17, 2009 Leigh Sills 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have an old camcorder, not HD so this product is good enough for me. The steps are minor, plug into the camcorder or player, plug into the usb port on the pc. It starts to capture with just a mouse click. I didn't need to fill my pc with other programs I wouldn't use so this is just the ticket. It comes with a dvd authoring program too. I can use this program for making disks other than the video conversion. The video editor is good enough for quick edits. Meets a specific purpose.
This is Exactly what I Sought! February 17, 2010 John N. Schear (Roanoke, Virginia United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I do not recall how many times I have shopped for a device that would take the VHS tapes and convert them to DVD. But deep in my empty pocket and wallet loomed no bucks for conversions and then along came Roxio Easy VHS to DVD and now I have a brand new library (actually not completed yet) and a heck-uv-a-lot of space available to store books. Friends said there was no software available to do what I wanted and something that costs so little and has so few parts could not possibly work. Wrong.
Unlike many Americans, I read the instructions and studied them to the point that I felt comfortable installing the software and trying the Roxio. Now comes the part that explains my laziness about stuff. Instead of disconnecting the VCR (a little used piece of old technology) and interfacing it with the desktop I decided to couple the VCR with the laptop. Much better plan. Worked to a perfect T. The laptop is over there working as I type this and when it is ready for another VHS tape I can do it when I need to. While I am delighted with the process and cannot think of any software changes that I would make I would suggest one element for the Roxio folks. That is for them to include the HDMI or component cable in an effort to eliminate a trip to the store. Additionally, while it is no big deal I would have a place that says exactly what comes with the package and what is needed to complete a transfer. Anything to eliminate confusion would be worthwhile. In a few days I hope to see a perfectly good VCR being placed in the historical wing of our house, commonly called the attic, awaiting the final sale. Roxio is that good for me.
Just don't try it the way they say February 17, 2010 Dale W. Gregory 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought the Roxio product in early 2010 so maybe they fixed a lot of the problems I see on these other reviews. I had no problem installing the program onto my computer. The problem I had was when I tried to capture and burn the video at the same time, which is the way the instructions say to burn VHS tapes. It may be easier that way, but it barely ever worked and I was going through tons of DVDs. It literally created a usable DVD maybe 25% of the time and I gave up even trying to add a menu since that would almost guarantee failure. But when I started playing with the software and realized I could capture the video first onto a folder and then burn that video onto a disc later, it worked virtually perfectly. Plus the menu feature also works well now. The only time there is ever a problem is when the video is really bad for more than a few seconds. But I even found I could avoid that problem because there is editing software that will let you trim the beginning and end of a video to remove problem video areas. Unfortunately, capturing the video and then burning it later takes a lot longer and the editing process is slow as well. But the videos look great in the end and I have only had one bad disc created out of 27 DVD's so far. So as long as you just want the end result being a good looking DVD, and not concerned with the time and effort involved, this product will make you happy.
Roxio VHS to DVD July 26, 2010 James R. Kemble 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This program does everything Roxio says it will do. The wiring provided with the program does a great job hooking up old cameras and VHS players to the computer. I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone facing the problem of transferring old tapes to DVDs. The price is right for this product as well.
